What role can history play in contemporary architecture practice? Rather than adopting a postmodern attitude or evoking past discussions and historical architectural forms, Go Hasegawa, Kersten Geers, and David Van Severen address contemporary issues in their work while remaining in dialogue with history. Even with distinct pasts and contexts, affinities emerge in shared concerns and approaches.
In this exhibition, the architects reread, redraw, translate, and appropriate from the past and from each other in order to construct relationships and meaning out of a constellation of references. History becomes something that can be used rather than just studied.

We can say this exhibition is a manifesto of current generation and that is also why we choose this topic of history. We feel that, this, there is an interesting new position of the contemporary, this generation of architects of returning to look at past architecture, but with a very different approach that was from the postmodern and other previous generations. And through the lens of this topic of history they also clearly explain their position towards what means architecture to them.
And so the fact that we have an entire exhibition that tools the traditional tools of architecture like models, one-to-one mock-up, a plan, a section, and perspectives for example are all explored as a tool for drawing, thinking and representing architecture, but they also define which is the scope of their work, so the way they will do a perspective or the way they are interested in plan or the way interested in section. It's a very specific way to use these tools and it's also the way they looked into the collection. Therefore they might be interested not in a building, the total building, but maybe of plan of that building, they might be interested in a section not the entire building, but maybe the way the section reveals how things are put together and so somehow it gives also the idea of like how they generate ideas using also past architecture.

건축가와 역사의 관계
건축가는 학자와는 다른 시각으로 역사를 바라보고 설계에 적용할 수 있다는 점을 시사하는 전시.
안내문의 밑줄 친 부분이 이 전시의 모든 것을 이야기해 주며
큐레이터 Giovanna Borasi의 인터뷰에서도 역사를 다루는 다른 방식에 주목한다.
이미 2017년에 이런 전시를 했다는 사실에서 유럽을 비롯한 일본 건축계에서는
역사에 대한 다른 태도들이 하나의 흐름으로 인정받아 오고 있음을 알 수 있다.
역사적 관점에도 다양한 관점이 존재하듯 역사를 다루는 방식에도
주체에 따라, 개인에 따라 여러가지가 있을 수 있다.
오히려 역사주의의 무게에 짓눌리지 않은 이런 다소 '가벼운' 역사적 방법론이
건축 환경과 건축 담론에 풍부함을 더하고 있음을 유럽 여러 건축가들을 통해 목도하고 있다.
전시 책자를 구매한 뒤 다시 추가적인 생각을 적어볼 예정.
또 인상적인 지점은 CCA에서 방대한 자료들을 다루는 방식이다.
일련의 전시들에서 CCA는 단순히 자료들의 목록이나 정보를 제공하는 방식에서 벗어나
이들 자료들에 새로운 생명력을 불어넣고 있는 것 처럼 보인다.
이 전시가 그런 노력을 잘 보여주는 사례로
이 전시는 CCA에서 소장하고 있는 자료들에 기반해 열린 것으로
전시에 참여한 세 건축가들이 각자의 관점에서 자료들을 선택하고
각자의 건축과의 연관성 속에서, 그리고 서로의 건축과의 관계 속에서
새로 배치하고 의미를 재발굴하는 결과를 보여주고 있다.
그 외에도 소장하고 있는 제임스 스털링James Stirling 등의 자료들을 온라인 상에 공개하기도 하며
전시와 출판을 통해 새로운 의미들을 발굴하는가 하면
포스트 모더니즘에 대한 불가능할 것 같은 통시적 관점의 전시 및 출판를 진행한 점 등
자료들을 단순 아카이브로 사장시키기보다 끊임없는 의미의 현재화 작업을 통해
생명력을 불어 넣고 있다.
(CCA의 방대한 James Stirling의 아카이브는 그 자체만으로도 정말 감동적이다.)
이 전시도 자신들이 소장하고 있는 건축 자료들을
현대 건축가들의 작업을 잇는 매개체로 이용하여
건축가들의 새로운 관점을 부각시키도 하지만 창고 속 자료들이 빛을 받는 기회이기도 했다.
이 두가지를 한 번에 성취한 전시를 기획했다는 점이 인상적이다.
